Ministry of Communication, Science and Technology, on Wednesday, announced that the temporary border control system in Maafaru International Airport was replaced by a permanent reformed system within the past week.
National Centre for Information Technology (NCIT), operating under the ministry, concluded the installation of the new border control system last Wednesday.
The ministry stated that NCIT will provide any assistance required to operate the service and handle the new apparatus.
With this development, the technology ministry asserted that this service has now been established on every airport in Maldives.
The ministry further noted that the border control system will ease the challenges in travel caused by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
The USD 60 million Maafaru International Airport, funded by Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) was finally unveiled on December 1, 2019, after various deadline extensions. The airport was developed with the capacity to accommodate A320s and Boeing 737 aeroplanes.
