SIMDI to hold first ever "Monin Cup" in Maldives

Monin has announced that Maldives will hold its first ever Monin Cup on June 22 with 15 finalists already selected to take part in the competition. Winners of the national Monin Cup are offered the chance to represent the country in the International Monin Cup

SIMDI group, the exclusive distributor of the premium French based syrup company, Monin has announced that a 'Monin Cup' will be held in the Maldives for the first time.

During a press conference held at SIMDI headquarters the company announced that 15 finalists have been chosen for the Monin Cup, and the competition has been scheduled for June 22.

Targeting mixologists working at resorts, the Monin Cup competition is being held on a national scale to identify the best talent among the participants. The 15 finalists were chosen after reviewing over 40 recipes submitted by mixologists along with their applications.

General Manager of SIMDI Group, Yooshau Saeed, stated that the competition will provide an opportunity for mixologists in the Maldives to display their talents and hone their techniques. He added that as SIMDI is a company dedicated to advancing various sectors of the country's tourism industry, the mixology industry will benefit from the tournament, with broader opportunities being opened up.

"In review of the praise received for this competition, we will work to organize in the coming years as well. [We] are also working to expand the sale of 'Monin' brand products at a wider scale." said Yushau.

He had further highlighted that SIMDI has held various trainings for mixologists through the Monin brand in addition this Cup, with trainings and tournaments also held for various other brands sold by the company.

During this conference, Head of SIMDI Beverages, Adam Ramic had emphasized the support received from resorts for the tournament. He stated that the performance of participants will be judged based on the recipe, technique of preparation and presentation of the final product.

Adam stated that the winner of the competition will be offered the chance to represent Maldives in the International Monin Cup 2024 held in France while the second and third place winners will be given an exclusive visit to the Monin factory located in Malaysia. Adam described this visit as an opportunity to learn more about the brand and its unique techniques.

Cluster General Manager of Taj Exotica Resort & Spa, Maldives, Corinna Luebbe had expressed that hosting such a competition marks a joyous occasion for the resort, which is a partner of the tournament. She had noted that mixologists working at the resort are also offered the chance to hone their skills and explore the industry through this partnership.

The first edition of the of the Monin Cup was held in 2014 in over 57 countries. The Monin Cup held slated for June marks the first time Maldives partakes this competition.
