High Commissioner of Maldives to Sri Lanka Masood Imad presented his credentials to Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe and exchanged discussions on mutual commitment to enhance bilateral relationships.

High Commissioner of Maldives to Sri Lanka, Masood Imad presented his letter of credence to the President of Sri Lanka, Ranil Wickremesinghe at a ceremony held yesterday morning at the President's House.

During the ceremony, High Commissioner Imad expressed his honour on being appointed, and noted that he is "deeply aware of the trust and responsibility entrusted to him by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu" to serve as Maldives' representative in Sri Lanka, a statement by the Foreign Ministry reads.

He also reiterated his commitment to strengthen the historic bond and bilateral relationship between both countries, and highlighted Sri Lanka's role as an invaluable socioeconomic development partner of the Maldives, while also serving as a second home for many Maldivians.

"High Commissioner Masood Imad also conveyed greetings from President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer and the people of Maldives to the President and the people of Sri Lanka," the Ministry's statement read.

In the ceremony, President Wickremesinghe congratulated High Commissioner Imad on his appointment and commencement of duties, wishing success in his tenure.

He also assured that the Sri Lankan government is fully committed to enhance relations between the two neighbouring countries.

High Commissioner Masood Imad received the approval of the now concluded 19th parliamentary term last April.

Masood Imad obtained his higher education from Al Azhar University, Egypt and served as the Media Secretary of the President's Office during former President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan's administration. He also served many years as a high level official of Maldives Airports Company.
