Maldives records 100 COVID-19 related fatalities

Health Protection Agency (HPA) on Monday revealed that 100 deaths have been recorded in relation to COVID-19 in Maldives.

The agency announced the 98th victim as an 80-year-old Maldivian female admitted to Hulhumale Medical Facility. She was declared dead at 2244 hrs on Sunday. Hence, a total of four people passed away on Sunday.

The 99th victim was a 64-year-old Maldivian male who was admitted to the DH11 facility. As per HPA, he was declared dead at 0014hrs.

Meanwhile, the 100th fatality was a 56-year-old Maldivian woman. She passed away early morning at 0441hrs.

Maldives recorded its first COVID related death on April 29, 2020.

The ongoing surge of COVID-19 positives has vastly increased the death rate, with 27 people passing away to date in May alone.

Authorities have tightened measure to curb the spread. This includes increased duration and extended curfew in addition to travel restrictions.
