Following the abrupt assassination of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, police investigating the case claimed the suspected shooter held a grudge against a "specific organization."
The alleged gunman, now identified as 41 year old Tetsya Yamagami believed the former Japanese PM was connected to the said organization.
Furthermore, Yamagami had during interrogations, admitted to shooting Abe with a homemade gun.
Meanwhile, the assassinated Japanese former leader's body was carried to his home in Tokyo. Members of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) had lined up at Abe's residence to pay their respects.
Abe was gunned down while campaigning for his party in the run-up to upper house parliamentary elections on Sunday, July 10.
The current Prime Minister Fumio Kishida is expected to visit Abe's residence sometime on Saturday afternoon.
Kishida had condemned the assassination stating that he was "simply speechless" and vowed that Japanese democracy will "never yield to violence."
Following Abe's demise, Prime Minister Fumio Kishida abandoned the campaign trail and flew to Tokyo where he addressed regarding the incident.
"Former prime minister Shinzo Abe was shot in Nara and I have been informed he is in a very grave condition," Kishida had said earlier.
The attack came before noon in the country's western region of Nara, where Abe had been delivering a stump speech with strong security detail.
The footage broadcast by NHK had shown the alleged shooter approaching Abe from behind before drawing the homemade gun from a bag and firing.
At least two gunshots were fired, after which the alleged shooter was tackled to the ground by the security officers present on site.
According to more recent updates, Abe had suffered two bullet wounds to his neck and damage to his heart.
Reports claim that he was said to be conscious and responsive in the minutes immediately after the attack. However, the doctors stated that there were no vital signs detected by the time Abe was transferred for treatment.
The longest serving Japanese PM was pronounced dead at 05:03 pm on Japanese local time, Friday, July 7.
Global leaders have condemned the attack, with UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson called it a "despicable attack." On the other hand, United States President Joe Biden had phoned Prime Minister Kishida to express his "outrage, sadness and deep condolences" over the attack.
Biden further noted that it was a "tragedy for Japan and for all who knew" the prime minister.
Additionally, the US head of the state had ordered for US flags to be flown at half-mast over the weekend.
South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol had called the attack an "unacceptable act of crime" while extending condolences to the people of Japan.
Moreover, Chinese President Xi Jinping had sent his condolences to the current Japanese PM.
