Maldives Customs Service reports it has confiscated three shipments of drugs smuggled via air courier.
The authority revealed that it intercepted the initial shipment in late September 2023. The package, sent from Germany to the Maldives via courier, contained 2.2 kilograms of mephedrone.
The second shipment containing electronic gadgets and three kilograms of heroin, smuggled from India as an air cargo was intercepted earlier on October 5.
Two days later on October 7, Customs nabbed the third shipment smuggled via Thailand which included 3.5 kilograms of heroin.
Customs officials have reported that the confiscated drugs have a street value of over MVR 8 million.
The authority has handed over the confiscated items to the Maldives Police Service for further investigation. However, it remains unclear whether any arrests have been made in connection with the case.
