Maldives' flag carrier Maldivian Aero will be bringing its latest addition to its fleet, an ATR aircraft into the country this coming Thursday, the airline confirmed.

This is the first of the two ATRs set to be added to Maldivian's fleet, making it the fourth addition of its model to the airline's roster. The aircraft's maiden voyage to the Maldives which will originate from Toulouse, France will take three days in total, according to the airline.

The regional turboprop aircraft is "brand new" and is designed to carry 42 passengers, said Maldivian. With this, the total number of aircrafts on it's fleet will increase to 15, including the Airbus A320 and dash planes.

The first ATR aircraft was brought by Maldivian in January of 2023, with a capacity of 72 passengers. A second aircraft of the same model was later added to the fleet, but one with a 42 passenger capacity.

ATRs are used by Maldivian for domestic flights, which are typically short-haul trips to any of its 15 airport destinations within the Maldives.

Maldivian began adding new aircrafts to its fleet last year.

In addition to the ATRs, the airline recently announced its interest to lease a 250 seater, Boeing 787-8 aircraft for six years. They are still searching for a wide body aircraft of that size, the airline said.
