Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has launched "Safety Week 2022" to raise awareness about workplace safety.
This is the third time the program is being held by MPL. It was previously held in 2020 and 2021 as well.
A number of activities are included in the week-long program this year.
Speaking at the launch of Safety Week, MPL CEO, Shahid Ali said that creating a safe and secure environment in port operations is one of the company's biggest objectives.
Noting that port operations is a dangerous job in itself, Shahid said the Safety Week is an important programme.
The Health, Safety and Environment Policy Statement was launched at the ceremony to implement the company's health and safety standards. It ensures that all company operations are conducted safely by implementing industry best prastices and adhering to the highest safety standards.
In addition, MPL has donated helmets to the port workers as a token of appreciation.
MPL Safety Departments long-serving employees, employees who saved lives and property of passengers at the Malé Commercial Habour and other institutions working with the company were presented with plaques.
A minute of silence was observed in memory of those who lost their lives in accidents at the commercial port.
