The Supreme Court has confirmed it will reopen the cases of MP Abdul Latheef Mohamed, MP Mohamed Ameeth, MP Mohamed Waheed and MP Saud Hussain, concerning the loss of their parliamentary seats.
The Elections Commission on Wednesday had affirmed the disqualification of the four MP's, prompted by the declaration made by the Supreme Court stating that the 12 parliamentarians who had shifted from their original party should be unseated.
It is believed that these cases will not have a lengthy hearing and that a verdict would be reached within a single hearing.
The four MP's were dismissed from their registered Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) following a rebellious demonstration at the Parliament.
Although there were previous hearings of the case at the time when former Chief of Justice Abdulla Saeed was still in office, a verdict was never reached.
State Attorneys representing the Election Commission and the Attorney General's Office had also requested that the Court reach a final verdict.
Chief of Justice Dr Ahmed Abdulla Didi, the presiding judge for the bench, announced that they would reach a verdict in the next hearing to be held for the case.
All four MP's are set to have separate hearings to appeal their case.
