The Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure has announced its decision to reschedule rent payments for “Gedhoruveri Kurun” housing flats.
The ministry said that it will reschedule rent payments for tenants living in 704 housing units issued in Hulhumalé who have not been able to settle their payments.
The ministry has extended the repayment period until the end of February.
The government issued these flats under the “Gedhoruveri Kurun” program in 2018. They were developed by China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC) with funding provided by the government of China.
About 31 to 41 percent of tenants living in various social housing units do not pay their rents regularly, the ministry had reported. Despite this, the ministry has not taken any action against tenants who have outstanding payments.
