Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) revealed Monday that Central Henveiru MP Ali Azim is the only candidate to contest for the party's parliamentary group leadership.
In addition to Azim, who will contest for the MDP PG leadership in the elections to be held at 1600 hours this Tuesday, he previously expressed interest to run for Speaker of Parliament.
The members contesting for the two MDP PG Deputy Leader posts are Hulhudhoo MP Ilyas Labeeb and Henveiru South MP Hussain Shameem.
Moreover, Alifushi MP Mohamed Rasheed Hussain proposed candidacy for PG secretary general.
Meedhoo MP Rozaina Adam is contesting for the Chief Whip post.
Additionally, Fonadhoo MP Moosa Siraj, Machchangolhi South MP Ahmed Haitham, Feydhoo MP Mohamed Nihadha, Henveiru North MP Ibrahim Muizzu, Kulhudhuffushi North MP Yasir Abdul Latheef, Thinadhoo North MP Abdul Mughnee and Ihavandhoo MP Mohamed Shifau are contesting for the party Whip posts.
Securing 65 constituency seats in the parliament, MDP currently possesses a super-majority.
