A fire broke out on the fourth floor of Ma. Rabeeu Villa on Keneree Magu, Male' City tonight. The fire was brought under control by around 22:45 hrs tonight.
MNDF confirmed these details and said that their Fire and Rescue Team responded to the scene upon receiving reports of the incident.
MNDF confirmed that no persons have been injured in the incident.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu also attended the scene of the incident, accompanied by Chief of Defence Force Abdul Raheem Abdul Latheef.
The area surrounding the house has been temporarily closed to the public.
Police are currently conducting an inspection to gauge the extent of damage caused by the fire.
Hence, until safety can be guaranteed, some surrounding areas have been closed to traffic, and the road is closed to pedestrians as well besides those living in other residences located on the street.
"Even those living on the street are advised to follow instructions issued by officers at the scene when moving in the area," Police stated.
Reports indicate that the building that caught fire is old and derelict. While the building itself appeared unsafe, rumours have been circulated on social media that the building has been used by persons as a hub for criminal activities.
