The Ministry of Tourism on Thursday announced its decision to inspect services provided by resorts.
Speaking at a press conference, Minister of Tourism Ali Waheed stated that although there are guidelines established for the management of tourism facilities, inspections were not fully compliant with the guidelines.
Moreover, the Ministry plans to revise the existing regulations on fire, safety, water sports, tourist resorts, travel agencies and guesthouses.
Minister Ali Waheed stated that the Ministry will coordinate with stakeholders and collect public opinion regarding the revision of the regulations.
As an initiative of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, the Ministry will conduct inspections of all the areas related to tourism industry within the span of eight months.
“All resorts, all guesthouses, all hotels and all safaris will be inspected. After which, necessary changes will be brought,” said the Tourism Minister.
So far, a total of nine tourists and three resort employees have died in 2019. Moreover, there have been two fire-related incidents in two resorts.
