One missing person from the fire, still not found: Afcons

Indian company Afcons has said one of their employees have been missing since the fire incident took place at the employees accommodation block on Friday morning.

According to Afcons, the company developing the Malé-Gulhifalhu bridge, the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Fire and Rescue team confirmed that no body or human remains were found.

Afcons said that the defence forces have stopped looking for the man now.

Earlier today, the police also searched the site of fire and the surrounding areas as well.

In the fire incident, 78 people were injured, and 32 of them were hospitalised for treatment. Twenty-four people who had minor injuries underwent operations, and the rest have been discharged from the hospital. A total of 457 employees lived in the now destroyed accommodation block.

Afcons assured they would be providing aid to all the people that were affected by the fire. They were providing clothes, mobile phones, and financial aid as well.

The company said ensuring the safety of their employees is one of their top priorities. They also said they will also investigate this case as a serious matter.
