Judge Shuaib Hussain Zakarriya has decided to retire after serving in the High Court for 11 years.
Judicial Service Commission (JSC) Secretary General Izmeera Shiham said the commission has now decided to proceed with the request of Judge Shuaib to retire.
According to Izmeera, he had requested to retire stating health reasons.
High Court Judge Shuaib, who was born in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll Hoandeddhoo, was appointed on March 26, 2011. JSC has not yet announced the date of his retirement.
Shuaib, received his first degree in law and jurisprudence from Qatar University in In 1997 and obtained a Masters of Comparative Law from the International Islamic University of Malaysia In 2006.
Shuaib has held positions including Legal Officer of the Ministry of Justice, Special Judge, Judge of Family Court, Chief Judge of Civil Court and Chief Judge of Juvenile Court. He was also the President of the Judges Association.
He has taught at Majeediyya School and worked as a lecturer in the Faculty of Islamic Studies and the Faculty of Sharia and Law in the past as well.
