Maradhoo constituency lawmaker Mr. Ibrahim Shareef has alleged the presence of anti-government conspirators in the ruling party.

The lawmaker said the conspirators were attempting to undermine the current administration led by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih by colluding with the ruling party's political rivals.

Moreover, the politician's allegations have come at a time when the infighting and internal conflict between two factions of the ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) have seemingly intensified beyond possible resolve.

Shareef made the allegations amid President Ibrahim Solih's trip to Addu City on Sunday, 27th March 2022.

From the comments made by MP Shareef, it was apparent that his allegations were pointed towards the MPD faction led by current Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed.

Meanwhile, the conflict has intensified to alarming levels after the two factions nominated their respective candidates running for the party's Chair.

Solih's faction has nominated the incumbent Minister of Economic Development Mr. Fayyaz Ismail while Nasheed's faction nominated North-Maafannu MP Imthiyaz Fahmy.

Moreover, Shareef has publicly declared his support to Ismail, the incumbent President nominated candidate from MDP.

"We have in our midst, members who are willing to topple the government regardless of what it may to do the public. We will not let anyone oust you [Solih]," Shareef declared.

In his praise, Shareef had acknowledged the current statesman's efforts amid the Covid-19 pandemic to ensure the economic and social drive of the Maldives did not enter irreversible damages.
