Wellness tourism is on the rise, in the Maldives and around the world. Conscious travellers have progressed beyond traditional spa experiences and are now seeking a more holistic approach to wellness. Revellers are becoming more interested in non-traditional kinds of healing, fitness activities that are more enjoyable than strenuous, and wellness platforms that are not limited to yoga. Wellness, hospitality, and travel are increasingly convergent in unprecedented ways, from the mainstreaming of the 'healthy hotel' notion to wellness programming and the proliferation of ever-more-creative wellness destinations, retreats, and tours. Tourism and wellness are bridging the gap to co-exist together and luxury resorts in the Maldives are creating reflective spaces to induce wellness.

The one-island one-resort concept that is prevalent in the Maldives is the defining feature of a ritualistic holiday that will nourish the mind, body and soul. It is difficult to be selective on a destination as most high-end resorts promote wellness tourism in the Maldives. However, five notable retreats that are a few clicks away towards getting that well-deserved well-rested vacation are:

Anantara Hotels, Resorts and Spas

The group has introduced a new series of short "Well-being Retreat" packages, which include new two-plus day alternatives for healthy, active experiences at several of its premium resorts throughout the world, including the Maldives. The three-tiered programs are based on Anantara's "Balance Wellness" concept, which combines food, signature spa treatments, and dynamic or mindful exercise to balance mental and physical wellness. Each package highlights the resort's own indigenous experiences and is created for two people to encourage couples, best friends, or families to get inspiration, information, and practical experience that they can use in their daily wellness routine once they return home.

A consultation to identify dosha (body-mind type), medical history, and personal needs precede signature retreats for "Longevity" (targeting toxins that overload the liver) and "Detoxifying" (rejuvenating the immune system). Yoga, meditation, pranayama breathing, diet, chakra alignment (for emotional health), and ayurvedic treatments, such as a Shirodhara service, which is designed to awaken the third eye (raising intuition) and is frequently followed by a guided stargazing session, are all available to guests. The Maldives' first high-tech medical spa, Cocoon Medi Spa, offers everything from post-flight IV vitamin infusions to a vampire facial.

Six Senses Laamu

Six Senses Spa takes a multi-layered approach to wellness, combining a pioneering attitude with treatments that go above and beyond. Six Senses offers an intuitive blend of science and human awareness, with a high-tech and high-touch approach that defines a service tailored to the person.

Six Senses Spa Laamu in the Maldives is located right on the beach and features four creatively constructed couple's treatment nests, four secluded couple's treatment pavilions, and one Ayurvedic treatment pavilion, all nestled among the island's natural vegetation. Award-winning signature treatments, as well as rejuvenation and wellness specialties of the region, are provided by highly qualified therapists who use a variety of natural ingredients. Ayurveda, facials, and massages are among the spa's most popular treatments. Personal consultations and holistic therapies such as yoga and meditation are available from some of the top visiting practitioners to help clients reach a healthier state of mind and more rewarding life experiences.

Conrad Maldives Rangali Island

The Conrad Maldives Rangali Island is one of the greatest spa resorts in the Maldives. The tucked-away Spa Retreat, located 100 meters off the edge of Rangalifinolhu Island, offers a magnificent haven where every element of your health and wellbeing is handled, from nutrition and body treatments to aesthetics. Enhance your body and soul with unique, effective spa experiences from ELEMIS, the only professional brand to clinically test the performance of its revolutionary facials, which have been proven to be effective after just one treatment. The spa has a hair and nail salon, a store, a Vichy shower, and nine couple's treatment rooms, several of which have their own private steam, sauna, and jet bath.

Mandhoo Restaurant, perched on stilts above the soothing waves and marine life, soothes your senses as you dine. The menu employs organic produce, with many components grown on the island, to stimulate and nourish the body. Their organic menu is divided into five parts, each with its own taste, temperature, moisture level, density, and accompanying cuisines that are meant to touch the body, mind, and soul in distinct ways. Each over-water spa villa has its own private double treatment room and sun deck with whirlpool, setting the standard for a luxury vacation in the Maldives. These villas offer delightful isolation due to their full separation from the rest of the resort.

Niyama Maldives

Niyama provides every tourist with a plethora of choices to create their own unique island experience, going beyond traditional conceptions of luxurious accommodations, gourmet foods, and extravagant services. The resort also collaborates with world-renowned experts to educate and immerse travellers in well-being rituals designed based on individualistic preferences.
