Two parliamentary members from The Democrats have expressed concern after the government submitted the appointment of an ambassador to Pakistan for parliament's approval during the government's transition period.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has nominated Khadheeja Najeeh, an experienced diplomat, for parliament's approval as the next ambassador to the South Asian ally.

Parliamentary group leader of The Democrats and Central-Henveiru MP Ali Azim raised a point of order after president Solih's letter was submitted to the parliament during Wednesday's sitting on October 11.

The MP said that president-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's demand to halt seven major processes amid the transitional process including political appointments.

He further said that the parliamentary approval for the ambassadors to Bangladesh and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) was submitted prior to the second round of the presidential election held on September 30, ahead of the transition.

The MP urged to refrain from acts that may undermine or hinder the efforts of transition.

"When such acts have become repetitive every time governments transition, we need to impose Article 94 of the Constitution and order a prohibition on such conduct," Azim said.

Deputy Speaker Eva Abdulla, who presided as the chair of Wednesday's sitting, said MP Azim's point of order did not intervene the sitting.

This was followed by Central-Maafannu MP from The Democrats Ibrahim Rasheed taking another point of order, who expressed concern over the ambassador's appointment amid the transition process.

Eva disapproved the point of orders taken by both MPs, and said the grievances can be submitted during the committee debate phase.

Mohamed Firuzul, the transitional process spokesperson for Dr. Muizzu, expressed concern about the government seeking ambassadorial appointment, stating that it would pose challenges for the new government set to assume power on November 17.
