During a meeting with Male' City Council members, President Muizzu confirmed the government's commitment to building more schools in Hulhumale'. He spoke of the challenges faced by students who commute daily from Hulhumale' to Male' and stated that these issues would be addressed through the construction of new schools.
Highlighting the area's rapid population growth, President Muizzu noted that Hulhumale', now with a population exceeding 200,000 across three phases, requires a total of 22 schools, including those already established.
"Over the next four years, including this year, we will focus on building more schools. We aim to construct at least seven, possibly up to ten schools within this period," he stated.
The President also mentioned that adding 10 more schools in Hulhumale' would significantly reduce traffic on the Sinamale' Bridge.
Last week, Education Minister Dr. Ismail Shafeeu confirmed that three new schools would be constructed in Hulhumale' this year. One school will be built in Hulhumale' Phase 1, another in Phase 2, while the location for the third is still being finalized.
Currently, Salahuddin School is the only operational school in Hulhumale' Phase 2. Due to the rising number of residents and students in the area, the school has had to split its sessions to accommodate the increase in students. Salahuddin School, which has a capacity for 1,700 students, is currently serving 2,350.
Some children from Hulhumale' Phase 2 are attending Huravee School in Phase 1, and those unable to secure placements in Hulhumale' schools are being enrolled in schools in Male' City.
