The case involving the assault on Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem with a hammer this morning has been forwarded to the Parliament Committee on Security Services (241) to ensure a thorough investigation into the attack.
In the attack near his home this morning, PG Shameem sustained injuries to his left forearm, with some bones having been fractured.
Shaheem has now been discharged from the hospital after receiving a cast on his hand.
West Henveiru MP Hassan Lateef, in his letter to Parliament Speaker Mohamed Aslam, said that he requests the 241 Committee to ensure that the police investigation is completed within a reasonable time.
A statement released by the Prosecutor General's Office detailed that the attack was perpetrated by two individuals riding on a motorcycle, using a weapon. The statement also confirmed that Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) has decided to take immediate action to strengthen the PG's security detail.
The PG Office stated that the police consider this a serious offense and are conducting an investigation into the assault.
