Former Kaashidhoo MP and local tycoon Abdulla Jabir has filed a lawsuit at the Civil Court against Maldives Immigration over cancelling his passport.

The advisor of convicted former President Mohamed Nasheed discovered the travel ban last June when he travelled to the UK after a stay in Italy. However, UK authorities finally allowed him entry and he has been residing in the UK ever since.

Immigration has not disclosed the reason for placing the travel ban on Jabir. However, Maldives Police Service had earlier confirmed that they requested Immigration to cancel Jabir’s passport in connection to an ongoing investigation. Police did not release further details.

Meanwhile, Jabir’s company Yacht Tours is also facing a lawsuit filed by Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) over the firm’s unsettled payments of over MVR 45 million in island rents and fines. The trial is currently ongoing.
