Ahmed Thoriq (Tom) has heavily condemned the decision by the Normalization Committee - appointed to oversee the running of the Football Association of Maldives (FAM) - in letting Mohamed Jaushan Shareef (Jau), the former General Secretary of FAM remain in his position.

Thoriq, a retired footballer who also earlier served as President of FAM is believed to be a candidate who will vie for association presidency once again at the elections scheduled to be held after the Normalization Committee reforms the association to a sufficient standard. Also a parliamentarian, Thoriq had contested in the most recent FAM elections. His candidacy however, was annulled under claims that he had not warranted sufficient support from football clubs as stated in the governing framework.

It was believed that the Normalization Committee assigned to resolve all such issues rooted within the association will instate a General Secretary with no prior involvement with FAM. FIFA had also similarly composed the Normalization Committee of people with no direct connection to FAM in a bid to reclaim public trust.

Jaushan said yesterday that he has decided to comply with the request and remain in the position as FIFA, Normalization Committee, as well as Chairman Zuhoor, had requested that he work alongside the committee.

FAM General Secretary, Mohamed Jaushan Shareef (Jau) at a former FAM congress.

"On their request, and with the intention of working for football, I remain in FAM at this time," he said.

Addressing this, Thoriq alleged that Jaushan had held his position as FAM's General Secretary even amid all the conduct that breached administrative guidelines during the two recently announced FAM elections.

"From meetings that do not meet the quorum, [Jaushan] was involved in all the dirty conduct. I do not see any normalization for FAM by keeping Bassam's General Secretary [in his position]." shared Thoriq via a Facebook post.

Meanwhile, former goalkeeper of the National Team, Imran Mohamed described the arrangement as the equivalent to letting Bassam himself remain as President of FAM.

Jaushan had, on several occasions, also offered legal counsel to the governing football federation. He also remained the highest authority of FAM's administrative governance during the height of its recent downfall.
