Moosa Ali Manik (Mookey), the former Managing Director of the Road Development Corporation (RDC), asserted today that the current RDC management has made misleading statements, claiming that the previous administration's actions harmed the company.
Speaking at an opposition MDP press conference, Mookey stated, “The new management's comments in the parliamentary committee regarding RDC’s debt and alleged undocumented expenditures are completely untrue.”
According to the current Managing Director, Ali Zuhair, RDC reportedly owes MVR 837 million based on available documentation. Zuhair further claimed before the parliamentary committee that MVR 161 million was transferred through internet banking without proper documentation, and MVR 90 million was deposited into the account of RDC’s former CFO in a similar fashion.
Mookey dismissed these allegations, labeling the claim that MVR 161 million was spent without documentation as a blatant falsehood. He questioned why, if such a significant sum had been misappropriated under the previous management, the current administration has not yet recovered the funds.
"Why is the current management idle while claiming that our management lost the equivalent of eight months' salary without understanding what happened? Their party holds a supermajority in parliament, and they control the state. Why not interrogate us?" Mookey challenged.
He further noted that during former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's tenure, the police raided the RDC office, seizing all documents. These documents, according to Mookey, were returned in bags and remain unsorted by the new management.
Mookey concluded, “It’s clear that the public has been deceived, as the current RDC management has released information based on assumptions without providing a proper explanation.”
Mookey emphasized that RDC had to start from scratch, initially operating with minimal resources. Despite this, significant efforts were made to strengthen the company, adopting sound spending policies. He asserted that RDC has not incurred any expenses without completing the procurement process.
Mookey pointed out that the current government has provided varying figures regarding RDC’s debt, suggesting these claims are politically motivated. He also noted that no audit of RDC has been conducted since the change of government, leaving the basis for the management's claims unclear. Mookey revealed that the company has not submitted its statistics to the PCB in the last nine months.
Mookey urged Parliament to allow him to address the allegations made by the current RDC leadership in the SOE Committee.

- Direct money transfers to companies via internet banking.
