The Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) has voiced concerns regarding the opposition Maldives Democratic Party (MDP)-dominated parliament's delays in approving the cabinet of the new government.

Meedhoo MP Ahmed Siyam Ahmed's MDA, stated that while it is the parliament's responsibility to approve cabinet appointments, the prolonged delay in addressing this issue is deemed unacceptable.

Noting that ministers are responsible for consulting and assisting the President in formulating general policies of the state and implementing policies in accordance with the Constitution and laws, the MDA said delaying approval is also a matter of concern for the people.

The party said it was unacceptable for any state authority to act in a manner that would cause inconvenience to a government elected by a large majority of the people.

MDA, which had supported the incumbent President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu in the second round of elections, said they have requested the Speaker to complete the process of approving the ministers by the end of the session.

With the last sitting of Parliament on Thursday, December 28 after which members will go on a two-month leave, there is a belief that the approval process for President Muizzu's cabinet has been "parked", to be approved at a later date.
