The parliament revealed that representative of Dhaalu Atoll's Meedhoo constituency Ahmed Siyam (Sun Siyam) earned the highest income in 2019 from among incumbent parliamentarians.

As per the recently publicised financial statements, the owner of Sun Travel Pvt Ltd received MVR 20.2 million between May 2019 and May 2020. The figure is the collective total which includes Siyam's parliamentary salary and benefits as well as income generated from his company.

In addition to the aforementioned sum, Siyam collected MVR 887,520 as dividend from various companies, bringing up his total income in the period to MVR 21.1 million.

With the inclusion of land plots, vehicles, deposits at bank accounts and shares, Shiyam's assets are valued at MVR 25 million.

The financial statement also noted that Siyam currently has outstanding loans worth MVR 31.2 million from two banks. Between May 2019 and May 2020, Siyam repaid MVR 3.3 million.

Although Siyam earned the highest income in 2019, the wealthiest parliamentarian is currently Jumhooree Party leader and representative of Alif Dhaalu Atoll's Maamigili constituency, Qasim Ibrahim, who possesses assets worth over MVR 1 billion. In the previous year, Qasim collected an income of MVR 9.5 million.
