Lawmaker of Machangolhi South constituency, Abdulla Sinan, turned himself in soon after the police issued a notice searching for him along with another MP Friday.
Maldives Police Service announced the search for Sinan and Dhangethi MP Ilham Ahmed in connection to an investigation by the Economic Crime Department. Sinan had presented himself at the Police Headquarters within hours of the announcement.
According to the arrest warrant issued by the Criminal Court, Sinan is accused of accepting bribes within the parliament in order to conspire a coup.
Sinan and Ilham had both returned to the Maldives from overseas last week. They were arrested on arrival before the Criminal Court ordered their release the following day.
