Kaashidhoo MP Abdulla Jabir has won the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Parliamentary Primaries and confirmed his ticket once again for the same constituency.

In addition to Jabir, his son, Ahmed Muaz Jabir, also contended in the primaries, in his first public political move.

Muaz, too, won the MDP ticket. He contested for the Alif Dhaalu Mahibadhoo constituency, with his permanent residence being listed as Oyster, in Mahibadhoo.

Jabir won his ticket through garnering 252 votes, while his opponent, Abdulla Riffath, received 150. If elected in the March 17 parliamentary elections, Jabir will be serving his second term as MP for Kaashidhoo.

Muaz received 234 votes. His closest contender, Abdul Jaleel Ibrahim, gathered 132 votes. When looking at other candidates who also ran for this ticket, Bunyamin Hassan got 96 votes, and Hawwa Rasheed, 14.

The Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) also has a father-son duo running on their tickets in the upcoming parliamentary election. Eydhafushi constituency MP Ahmed Saleem (Redwave) and his son Ibrahim Naufal both won the PPM/PNC primaries held last month.

As most constituencies had only contender in MDP, they had their tickets confirmed prior to the holding of primaries. Yesterday's primaries covered 40 constituencies. Two constituencies are left without any MDP members contending for their seats as no one applied to represent them. These are Eydhafushi and Nilandhoo.
