Former parliamentarian Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik has been appointed to the post of Bureau Chief at the Parliament Secretariat.
Nihan was appointed to the position by Speaker of Parliament Abdul Raheem Abdulla.
Parliamentary service regulations allow the Speaker to appoint three individuals to assist with his duties.
Parliament Secretariat confirmed that Nihan has started in his new position effective from Wednesday.
Previously, the position was filled by former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's sister Fathimath Mohamed Solih. She had earlier served as President Solih's Secretary and later transfered to the post at Parliament when former Speaker Mohamed Aslam was in office.
While Nihan has been appointed to this position, four cases of bribery and a case of money laundering are currently ongoing at the Criminal Court against him.
