Lotus Bike Shop announces the company's donation of electric tricycles to people facing disabilities.
With a 14-year history of selling bicycles and motorcycles in the Maldives, Lotus has imported 30 of these motor tricycles that are specially designed to cater for the differently abled.
According to Lotus, the tricycles were imported after receiving numerous requests at the company. The 30 tricycles cost MVR 12,000 each.
“A lot of people requested the cycles, but since it would be beneficial for the community, we decided to give them away for free,” said a Lotus Bike Shop official.
The tricycles are scheduled to be distributed during the following week. Lotus demands medical documentation to prove a diagnosed disability in order to ascertain the legibility of applicants.
Lotus also declared its intentions to import and donate additional tricycles after assessing and analyzing public support for the campaign.
