The renovation of mosques in Malé city will be completed before the month of Ramadan, Malé City Mayor Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said on Wednesday.
The holy month of Ramadan is set to begin on March 23.
The Mayor said that refurbishment would take place in several mosques simultaneously.
"The most crucial work on the mosques will be completed within the next two weeks," Dr. Muizzu said in a tweet.
He did reveal the number of mosques being renovated.
All of the mosques, except for the Islamic Centre and the King Salman Mosque, are maintained by the city council. These two mosques are overseen by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs.
