A member of former President Abdulla Yameen's legal team, lawyer Abdulla Siyaz has declared that Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has persisted in influencing the former President's case hearing.

Due to the prolonged delays in concluding the appeal hearing of Yameen's 11 year prison sentence under charges of money laundering and bribery, former Vice President, Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed, who is also part of Yameen's legal team, has been heavily criticizing the current government.

However, a post Siyaz made on social platform X accused MDP of falsifying reports regarding the former president to raise charges against him and stated that Yameen was unlawfully imprisoned in a bid to take him and his [then] political party, Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) down.

Siyaz maintains that the party that has been influencing Yameen's hearing back then and even right now has always been MDP. His post asserted that MDP's agenda is to enforce additional charges over Yameen in addition to obtaining political gain through it.

While Yameen has also renounced PPM and initiated the inception of his own political party, People's National Front (PNF), he has been alleging that the party responsible for delaying his appeal is the present administration.

However, Senior Representatives of the government reiterate that this government will never influence judicial procedures in any shape or form and maintains that they will always respect judiciary verdicts.
