Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has submitted a resolution to parliament today seeking the establishment of an inquiry into the allegations of jeopardizing national security made against the former administration by then opposition parties.

MP for North Thinadhoo constituency Abdul Mughni submitted the resolution, which claimed that various persons have alleged that the policies of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's administration adversely affected the national security and sovereignty of the Maldives.

The resolution stated that these allegations have led to public demands to learn the truth of the matter as well as numerous concerns, and called for an inquiry to clarify the matter, saying it will assist in protecting the peace and prosperity of the country.

Among the matters suggested for the inquiry are the claims of thousands of armed military personnel stationed in the country, the purported sale of a part of the country's territorial waters, as well as the resolution to the Chagos issue which is claimed to be detrimental to national interests.'

The decision to call for a public inquiry was made at the MDP National Congress meeting held in Alif Alif Ukulhas over last weekend.
