The governments of Maldives and India signed three agreements on Sunday, aimed at furthering ties between the two countries.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the agreements centred on visa facilitation for diplomatic and official passport holders, development cooperation, and renewable energy.
The agreements were exchanged in the presence of Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid and India's Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj, who is currently on a two-day state visit to Maldives.
Minister Swaraj is the first foreign minister received by Shahid since his appointment to office. The two diplomats held bilateral talks, and chaired a joint ministerial meeting to discuss furthering cooperation in a wide range of areas.
Minister Swaraj also called on the Speaker of Parliament Qasim Ibrahim, and paid a visit to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), the state-run hospital developed by Indian aid. She dedicated the renovation of IGMH to the people of Maldives.
