Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef has called for an end to a past marked by hatred and incitement to strife.

Speaking at a meeting held at the ruling People's National Congress (PNC) hub last night, Vice President Hussain stated that recent elections have shown that past political leaders and their ideologies did not align with the public's desires or follow their wishes.

"What was seen from the previous political leaders or the situation in society was hatred, anger, and hostility," he said. The Vice President highlighted that these leaders promoted conflict, personal attacks, and reckless statements.

He said that this trend of inciting anger and hatred was evident in the last parliamentary elections, but the people had rejected it.

"The people said no, that they do not want to repeat the past. It was a very bitter experience that we faced. Because of which, a generation has been destroyed by our political leaders," he said.

VP Hussain added that one of the bitter consequences of this political culture has been the emergence of major social issues. He emphasized that the people now want to build a safe and peaceful country.

Vice President Hussain assured that President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's administration would maintain standards and values, uphold the rule of law, and fulfill its pledges.

He praised President Muizzu's ability to listen to the people's difficulties and act swiftly.

"President Muizzu will demonstrate this during his tenure. There is no doubt that the people will come out and elect him for a second term, which would be a first in Maldivian history," he said.
