Minister of Housing, Land, and Urban Development Dr Ali Haidar has informed the parliament that he would not be able to attend today's parliament sitting to respond to questions regarding the handover of land allocated under the Binveriyaa housing scheme, implemented by former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's administration.

The first item on today's agenda included a query from North Galolhu MP Mohamed Ibrahim (Kudu) from the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) regarding the handover of land to beneficiaries.

However, Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla said during the opening of today's sitting that Minister Haidar had notified the parliament he was unable to attend due to a family emergency after the item had been placed on the agenda.

MP Ibrahim had asked for clarification from the government on the date when the land allocated to Male' residents would be handed over.

Additionally, he also inquired about the handover date for the 4,000 flats under development in Hulhumale' 2.

Minister Haidar also failed to appear before the petition committee to respond to a petition filed in Parliament seeking to prevent the cancellation of the gazetted list of beneficiaries under the Gedhoruveriyaa housing flat scheme.

Members of the ruling party People's National Congress (PNC) have also expressed their dissatisfaction with the minister's absence.
