Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed has assured that the price of fruits and vegetables in the Maldives market will see a decrease from October 15 onwards.
STO is now preparing to import and sell 23 varieties of food items, including fruits and vegetables, to address the rising prices on the market.
A press conference was held today by Minister Saeed and STO Managing Director Shimad Ibrahim to provide details of these efforts.
Speaking at the press conference, Minister Saeed said that the prices will see a decrease from October 15.
"October 15 is the date by which STO has to ensure these 23 food varieites are available in Maldives at low prices. That is the target," Saeed said.
Saeed said that if the price of any of these 23 varieties are seen to hike even before that, STO will bring in a stock of it.
STO Managing Director Shimad said that when the company had brought in goods to control prices during Ramadan, they had stored the goods under a temporary arrangement. However, permanent arrangements have now been made to import, store and sell the goods in ideal conditions.
"We have now set up two modern warehouses at the Industrial Village, near where the bridge is being constructed," he said.
