Mohamed Rasheed (Modu) bagged third placed in the half-marathon, in the 25-30 age category at the New Delhi International Marathon.
The long-distance runner, Mohamed, clocked 1:24:16 to break his individual record. His aim was to qualify for the half-marathon in the Indian Ocean Island Games to be held in Mauritius in July.
Nasrulla Ahmed, the most experienced Maldivian marathon runner and Mohamed’s coach, competed in the men’s full marathon in the 35-40 age category. He finished 31st overall with a timing of 3:35:27.
In the Dubai Marathon on January, Mohamed finished the full marathon with a timing of 2:37. His timing saw an improvement of three minutes compared to his previous marathon.
Furthermore, his timing saw a great of improvement of 14 minutes within three years. Mohamed carried out his training individually, although he received support from sponsors and Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF).
After completing the half-marathon in New Delhi, Mohamed will focus on the upcoming Indian Ocean Island Games and South Asian Games.
