Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed has stated that public confidence and trust in the Police Services have increased significantly in the past five years through their hard work.

In a social media post, Hameed stated that dedicated plans have been put in place, especially in areas with large populations, to reduce cases of group violence and assault in the streets.

He included the introduction of latest technology, like body worn cameras, and the establishment of the National College of Policing and Law Enforcement in Addu City as significant steps taken in the efforts to strengthen police competence and capacity.

He thanked the staff working in different capacities at the police services, highlighting that the successes of the service have been achieved through their hard work and commitment.

He urged Police to continue their work to maintain the confidence of the public, and to ensure improvements and changes are brought where they are deemed necessary, even under the next leadership of the service.

Hameed stated that despite obstacles presented due to the Covid 19 pandemic, police had been able to realize most of the targets in their 2019-2024 Strategic Plan. This includes restructuring of the police services, introducing community policing, changes brought legally to the police services, decreasing drug trafficking cases, and decreasing organized crime.

Hameed has previously announced his intention to resign on November 11 and is currently in Australia.
