Minister of Defence Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon has stated that long serving military personnel will have dedicated housing placed under their ownership and registered in their names.
Speaking last night at the graduation ceremony of the 70th MNDF Basic Training Course held in Girifushi, the Minister announced that Commander-in-Chief of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, has decided that in addition to the acquisition of weaponry used on land and sea, MNDF will also see individual development for its officers.
Ghassan stated that the President aims to make the defence services a viable career choice for the youth of the country.
"This means that, like you, youth who complete their schooling will also be able to join MNDF and go forward in fields other than the military that will be beneficial to the nation. For example, someone who wants to become an engineer can do an engineering degree, those who want to become doctors can do medicine," Ghassan said.
"The President has commenced efforts to secure scholarship opportunities for MNDF personnel."
The Minister affirmed that school leavers who join MNDF, who then go abroad to study, come back and work in MNDF, rising up through the ranks, would, once they reach retirement age, retire in a position where they will be able to lead a dignified life with their wife, children and grandchildren.
"To ensure this, the President has decided that those who serve in MNDF for long terms will be given ownership of their housing," the Minister said.
Ghassan went on to highlight the work the President does to bring advancement and development to MNDF and its personnel.
