Maldives, India, Sri Lanka begin joint Coastguard trainings

The 'Dosti' series of trainings was begun in 1992 by Maldives and India. Ghassan noted that Sri Lanka's participation in the training since 2012 has brought further advancement to the program.

Minister of Defence Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon has said today that President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's administration places the highest priority of ensuring that close relations, peace and stability is maintained between Maldives and neighbouring nations.

Speaking at the inauguration of the 'Exercise Dosti 16' trilateral military trainings being held in collaboration with the Indian and Sri Lankan Coast Guard, the Minister asserted that the President has assured that he will focus on maintaining regional stability.

The 'Dosti' series of trainings was begun in 1992 by Maldives and India. Ghassan noted that Sri Lanka's participation in the training since 2012 has brought further advancement to the program.

This is the sixteenth session of the Dosti training series. This year, the Bangladesh Coast Guard will also be participating as an observer.

The trainings, planned to continue till the end of tomorrow, will include maritime interdiction operations, ocean search and rescue operations, maritime surveillance and communication drills.

The training activities are being held in the Male' area and surrounding seas.
