Central Mahchangolhi MP and former Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed has highly praised Housing Minister Dr Ali Haidar Ahmed in today's parliament sitting, while at the same time suggesting that legal action be taken against the past administration's Housing Minister Mohamed Aslam.

Responding to Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) MPs' statements criticizing Haidar for this administration's decision to review the list of flat applicants, Nasheed claimed that he has utmost trust in Haidar. He added that the parliament has no room to refuse approval for cabinet ministers.

Nasheed alleged that the wrongdoing in the allocation of flats and land plots was committed by former minister Aslam.

He went on to accuse Aslam of 'slicing up Male'' and allocating flats and land plots to those he chose in a bid to secure the second round of the presidential election. He described the action as an atrocity and claimed that there is no one in the entire Male' who has not complained about the matter.

"It isn't Haidar we must refuse approval to. Instead, we need to sue our former Housing Minister Aslam," Nasheed said.

Stating that Haidar's comments yesterday were clearly laid out, Nasheed noted that the minister had been working in different capacities in the Planning Ministry from the time the office had been first established.

He said that the Minister had emphasized yesterday that the process of the housing schemes had been conducted in a wrongful manner. He said that there is nothing wrong with the Minister's statement that flat allocations need to be reviewed as it is based on points allocated in light of the data provided, with the data itself having been wrong in some cases.

Nasheed went on to say that flat allocations need to be thoroughly reviewed to ensure it goes to the most deserving. He added that there is currently no land to allocate land plots on, and that a solution to this can be achieved through the technical expertise of Dr Haidar.
