According to State Minister of the Ministry of National Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure (MNPHI) and chair of the housing committee, Akram Kamaluddin, the committee is currently reviewing the complaints received regarding the interim housing list announced by the Ministry.

According to the state minister, the authority has received nearly 800 complaints regarding the interim housing list for residents of Malé City. However, he noted that most of the complaints reviewed so far have been found to be unsubstantiated or without merit.

"We will review these complaints and provide responses accordingly. It is possible that the housing list may undergo changes after the completion of the complaint review process, but we cannot confirm this at the moment," Akram said.

The state minister assured that the complaints will receive a response within seven days.

Under the Binveriya Housing Scheme, Malé City residents now have the option to apply for lands or plots in the Greater Malé region by submitting joint applications with "housing eligible" candidates, which was not allowed previously. This means that candidates who were previously categorized as "eligible for joint application" can now seek lands or plots along with those who were categorized as "eligible, can apply through joint application."

"We will need to analyze separately those who are eligible and need to apply for joint application. However, those who are joining candidates who have already been selected for lands or plots do not require additional evaluation and will be included in the permanent list," Akram said.

The ministry has received a total of 23,088 applications, including both single and joint applicants. Among these, 12,794 applications have been categorized as eligible, representing a total of 19,858 applicants.

Under the Binveriya Housing Scheme, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had announced the allocation of 2,200 plots from Hulhumalé, 2,000 plots from Gulhifalhu, and an additional 2,000 plots to be reclaimed from land in Giraavaru.

Initially, the Maldives government had announced the issuance of 5,000 plots. However, President Solih later revised the plan and assured that all eligible applicants would receive plots. He further stated that the plots would be handed over to successful candidates no later than August 2023.
