Maldives received Covid vaccines to provide booster shots to large percentage of the nations population on Saturday.
According to a tweet by UNICEF Maldives, Maldives have received 100,620 Pfizer vaccines via COVAX Facility. These vaccines were donated by United States.
UNICEF said the vaccine will assist in the efforts to vaccinate against Covid-19 and to provide booster doses to the population that has already received double doses as well.
US Embassy in Sri Lanka released a press release stating that US has donated emergency healthcare products and training worth USD 7 million to combat against Covid-19.
They have also donated 60 ventilators to help support patients that require further healthcare, in addition to the money donated to aid with economic recovery efforts.
Booster doses are currently being administered to high risk individuals and those working in the health care sector by Health Protection Agency (HPA). More than 22,093 people have been dosed booster doses so far.
HPA has previously said they will make booster shots available to more demographics once they receive more doses. The responsibility of ensuring booster shots are administered will fall on the health center or hospital of the administrative islands. Booster shots will only be administered if six months have passed since an individual received the second dose of the vaccine. According to HPA, 366,165 people have received two doses of the vaccine in Maldives so far.
