The Honorary Consul General of Hungary in the Maldives Mohamed Ali Janah has said that the Hungarian government is working to streamline the visa application process and provide convenience to Maldivian students going to the country under the scholarship programme.

In coordination with the Embassy of Hungary in New Delhi, the Honorary Consul General is actively working to facilitate a smooth and hassle-free visa application experience for the Maldivian students. As part of this initiative, physical visa applications can now be submitted at the VFS Global Schengen Visa Application Centre located in Malé.

Once the physical visa applications reach the Embassy of Hungary, the embassy officials will arrange virtual meetings with the applicants to fulfill the necessary procedures.

The embassy will return the applicants' documentation and passports to the VFS Global Application Centre in the Maldives, with the visas duly stamped once the process is complete. This new process eliminates the requirement for students to travel to the Embassy of Hungary in New Delhi, offering them a more convenient and efficient way to obtain their visas.

Additionally, the Honorary Consul General of Hungary in the Maldives is fully committed to assist students prepare their documentation and address any questions or concerns that may arise.

The Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship program, which was announced in October 2022, provides a unique opportunity for Maldivian students to pursue their higher education in Hungary. The scholarship covers tuition fees, accommodation, and living expenses, relieving students of financial burdens and allowing them to fully dedicate themselves to their studies.

Hungary increased the number of scholarships awarded to Maldivians from 15 to 25 during Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto's official visit to Maldives in November last year.

Scholarship recipients are encouraged to contact the Honorary Consul General's Office in the Maldives via email at [email protected] for any queries or assistance they may require.
