The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) on Saturday signed agreements with six parties to develop cafes and restaurants at the Urban Boulevard initiative near the area that connects the two phases of Hulhumalé.
The HDC chose the contractors through competitive bidding. The selected parties are required to fund these projects themselves, and they are free to bring their own concepts to these eateries.
The selected parties are:
- Brothers Catering
- Refcool
- Celsius Private Limited
- Misraab Private Limited
- DineMore Restaurant
- Dreams Private Limited to develop the first global franchise outlet developed in the boulevard; Kenny Rogers Roasters
With the development of the Urban Boulevard, the HDC expects restaurants that serve a variety of cuisines to be established in the area.
Besides cafes and restaurants, the initiative also includes several entertainment and recreational facilities, including a children’s park and an outdoor gym.
The HDC said that the Urban Boulevard would reflect the development envisioned for Hulhumalé. It will also resolve the issue of cafes and restaurants closing down quickly in the beach area.
The Urban Boulevard initiative will transform Hulhumalé, HDC added.
