President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has decided today to provide the opportunity for former civil service employees who left due to various reasons, to return back to employment.

According to the President’s Office, the decision was made yesterday during a discussion held during the Cabinet meeting.

It was previously decided to allow civil service employees of the health sector who left due to various reasons to be able to return back to service. However, the opportunity has now been extended for other sectors as well.

With this decision, the government will be putting together a registry of former civil service employees who are keen to return back to fill positions which are facing staff shortages or areas with temporary staffing needs.

They will then be offered work based on a wage employment policy whenever staffing is required as such, said the government.

This decision was made to alleviate the delays in providing services to the public caused due to the stipulations of recruiting individuals to the civil service, which cause staffing delays as well, the President’s Office said.

It will also solve the issues currently faced by the government in hiring temporary replacements for employees who go on long leaves, according to the office.
