Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has on Monday cautioned the people of Maldives to hold eid celebrations in a manner that does not contradict Islamic discipline and traditions.
"Celebrating Eid must be within the boundaries that will please Allah. I call on beloved brothers and sisters to celebrate the joys of Eid in a manner that will not go against Islamic discipline and traditions," Shaheem said in a post on social media X even as islands across the country engage in multiple activities to celebrate this year's Eid Al-Adha.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has also urged citizens to abide by Islamic norms in celebrating Eid, beseeching people to not adopt foreign traditions into the celebrations.
Ahead of Eid celebrations, the Ministry of Cities, Local Government and Public Works also sent a circular to island councils instructing them to hold eid celebratory activities within Islamic boundaries.
Additionally, several Islamic scholars in the Maldives are also advising the same.
