VIA is expected to be congested tomorrow and travellers and taxi centres are requested to follow instructions to minimise delays.
With many who went on Umrah in December to coincide with the school holidays set to return tomorrow, Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has warned that Velana International Airport (VIA) is expected to be crowded and urged travellers to arrive for check-in at least three hours before departure.
MACL said the roads and terminal area of VIA may be congested with the arrivals. The company also shared peak congestion hours, detailing that from 06:00 am to 09:00 am, a total of 2,678 people are expected to arrive in Maldives, including 618 pilgrims. 1,372 people are expected to depart from the airport during this time, MACL also said.
The next peak is expected to be from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. During that time, 2,071 people are expected to arrive and 1,091 are scheduled to leave. Of these, 452 will be pilgrims.
MACL has asked taxi centers and drivers to cooperate in picking up passengers and maintaining traffic flow in the area around the airport during peak hours.
