Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has launched the Urban Youth Programme in collaboration with Maldives Integrated Tourism Development Corporation (MITDC) to train young people in the boating field.
The 10 participants selected for the programme were awarded certificates of participation on 18 December.
According to HDC, the goal of the training is to create a skilled youth base in society. On completion of the training, participants will have the opportunity to obtain a Royal Yachting Association license which allows them to operate motorboats anywhere in the world.
The progamme was opened to people between the ages of 18 and 35. The requirements for participation in the training included completion of grade 10 education and fluency in English.
Preference was given to those with experience in water sports during the selection for the training.
The programme will include two days of theoretical training in addition to 10 weeks of practical experience abroad. Those who complete the training will also have the opportunity to work in a Gulf country.
