Former Commissioner General of Taxation Yazeed Mohamed and former Deputy Commissioner General of Taxation Hassan Zareer have been nominated by President Muizzu for the position of Commissioner General of Taxation.

The nominations were submitted to the Parliament to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of the current Tax Commissioner, Fathuhullah Jameel, who stepped down to participate in the upcoming parliamentary elections.

President Muizzu communicated his proposal to the Parliament through a formal letter, recommending Yazeed and Zareer for the role of Commissioner General of Taxation. Following this, the Speaker has referred the nominations of both candidates to the relevant parliamentary committee for thorough consideration.

Both Yazeed and Zareer had previously served as tax commissioners, but their positions were terminated in 2019 following an amendment to the Administrative Taxation Act during the then ruling MDP's tenure. The amendment stipulated that within 30 days of the bill's implementation, appointments should be made to the top two positions at MIRA.

Despite the reopening of the two positions, neither Yazeed nor Zareer contested for the roles at that time.
